"Under the loblolly pines that dominate Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, a regime change took place as quietly as electricity running through a wire. On March 24, four days after American troops - including Fort Bragg's 82nd Airborne Division - launched Operation Iraqi Freedom; a limited liability company owned by four electric cooperatives started operating the distribution system on the southeastern North Carolina base."

~Peter Nye, Rural Electric Magazine, September 2003 cover story

Sandhills Utility Services, LLC (SUS)
is a limited liability corporation. SUS' office is presently located at the corner of Butner and Reilly Street at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

SUS owns, operates, and maintains the electrical distribution system at Fort Bragg and Pope Air-Force Base which consists of over 110,000 customers in 2 counties with a peak load of 104 MW.
SUS was nominated as Fort Bragg's Contractor of the Year for 2004 to compete against all Army Installations nationwide.

The four SUS partners would collectively represent one of the largest electric cooperatives in the United States. This puts us in a position to operate with efficient economies of scale, and enables us to attract and retain highly qualified personnel because of the potential for personal growth.

SUS is part of a nationwide group of electric systems involved in the electrification of rural, suburban, and urban America. Across the country there are nearly 1,000 electric membership corporations serving more than 80% of the landmass and the electrical needs of their members. Generally speaking, a cooperative is business owned and democratically controlled by the people who use its services. The user-owners are called members.
